Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I know which windows and doors to buy so my home can be windstorm certified?

Every home is different.  Location on the beach, size and number of windows and doors, and their locations on
the house all play a factor in which products are approved for your home.  Please don't assume that you can just
buy the same windows as your neighbor, as this may not be the case, and replacing the materials will cost you
in both time and money.  Contact our office for a consultation and we can discuss these items in detail before
your purchases are made and determine which are the appropriate choices for your particular application.
I own an older home and it is under the  "grandfather" clause.  Can I make any changes that I want?

The "grandfather" clause permits existing structures to be covered without being brought up to meet a more
restrictive windstorm code. This is commonly done to prevent the owners of older structures from spending
large sums to improve their property every time the code is amended.

However, any changes or alterations to the previously existing structure do not fall under the provisions of the
"grandfather" clause, and must be in compliance with the current windstorm code. This includes even minor
changes, such as replacement of an old door or window. Any changes would have to be certified by an engineer
in order to maintain your insurance coverage. Failure to do so may void any future claim.
How much do you charge for ________?

Aran and Franklin Engineering quotes prices by the job, based on the size and complexity of the structure.  For a
quote, please send a fax to (409) 935-5209, or e-mail us with a detailed description of your project. We will
    respond as quickly as possible.
